Server Configuration
Server configuration changes behavior shared by everyone in a guild, so Kakashi checks Discord management permissions before allowing changes.
This section covers the settings currently exposed by Kakashi's configuration system:
- Server Language
- Autoroles
- Welcome Messages
- Leave Messages
- Ban Messages
- Confessions
- Reddit Feeds
- Message Variables
A reliable setup workflow
For any configuration feature, use the same basic process:
- Confirm the person configuring it has the required Discord permission.
- Choose/create the target role or channel.
- Confirm Kakashi itself can perform the final action there.
- Save the configuration.
- Use a built-in test/preview when the feature provides one.
- Re-test after changing role hierarchy or channel/category permission overwrites.
A saved setting does not grant Discord permissions. Kakashi can remember the correct channel or role and still be blocked by Discord when the event happens.
Permission hotspots
Two Discord rules cause most configuration issues:
Channel overwrites
A role can have a permission at server level and lose it in one category/channel. Test permissions in the actual destination.
Role hierarchy
For autoroles, Kakashi's highest role must be above the role it is assigning. Manage Roles cannot bypass hierarchy.
Recommended order for a new server
If you are configuring Kakashi from scratch:
- Set the server language.
- Configure autoroles if your onboarding needs them.
- Configure and test welcome / leave messages.
- Add confessions only after moderation rules for that channel are clear.
- Add Reddit feeds only to channels where Kakashi can manage the delivery webhook.
Troubleshooting
Use Configuration Troubleshooting for the common failure patterns. If one feature works in one channel but not another, compare channel overrides before changing the global bot role.
