Server Language

Kakashi stores a language per server so its translated responses can match the community using it.

Users with Manage Server can change the language through:

/config language set <language>

Supported languages​

The current bot locales are:

  • English (en-US)
  • Español (es-ES)
  • Português (Brasil) (pt-BR)
  • Français (fr-FR)
  • Русский (ru-RU)

The language selection affects Kakashi's translated interface/responses in that guild. It does not translate arbitrary user-written text.

When to set it​

Set the server language early, before testing configuration screens such as welcome/leave messages, so the surrounding Kakashi interface appears in the language your staff expects.

The documentation site can have its own language selector. The docs locale and the Discord server's Kakashi locale are separate settings.

Permissions​

The user changing this setting needs Manage Server. No special channel permission is needed just to save a language choice beyond the normal ability for Kakashi to respond to the command.

Common mistakes​

  • Expecting the setting to translate custom welcome text that you wrote manually.
  • Confusing a user's personal Discord language with the server's Kakashi language.
  • Testing an old cached interaction/message and assuming the saved locale did not change.
