Learning Jutsus

Discovering a jutsu and learning it are separate steps. A technique becomes usable only after a successful learning attempt.

Open /jutsu learn and choose one of the techniques available to your shinobi. Kakashi checks that you have discovered it, know every chakra nature it requires, and own the materials for its rank. The confirmation screen shows your current materials and final success chance before you commit.

Materials and base chance

The final chance is base chance + chakra-control bonus + Ninjutsu bonus, clamped between 25% and 98%. Chakra control can add up to 12 percentage points; Ninjutsu can add up to 25 through its progression curve. Use the percentage shown in the confirmation as the exact chance for that attempt.

A normal attempt consumes the required Damaged Jutsu Pages whether you succeed or fail. Blank Scrolls and elemental catalysts are consumed only on success, so a failed attempt preserves them. A special learning-protection effect can preserve the damaged pages as well.

What you gain

Learning attempts also award shinobi XP. A successful E-rank attempt starts at 8–14 XP, while S-rank reaches 60–90 XP; failures give smaller rank-scaled XP. Success also grants Ability progress and can roll Chakra Residue, Seal Notes, a Practice Scroll, and a matching nature fragment. Higher ranks increase these drop chances.

When learning succeeds, the jutsu joins your collection. If your four-slot loadout has a free slot, Kakashi auto-equips the new technique. If all four slots are occupied, it stays learned and you can choose what to replace from /jutsu info.

Tutorial exception

The story's first Kage Bunshin learning step is special: while the tutorial conditions are active, its chance is 100% and it does not require the normal pages, scrolls, or catalysts.
